So, my level of Pyro obsession is such that I’ve not only come up with a backstory headcanon for comics Pyro, I’ve applied variations of that same backstory to all his media adaptations:
Comics Pyro: Abandoned by his teen birth parents, raised by his maternal grandmother in Australia. Gran is originally from England, which is why some people mistake him for British at first (that and Blob doesn’t know how to distinguish accents). Had a decent life with her until they had a major falling out over that whole “being a mutant” thing.
Movie Pyro: Raised by his grandmother in Australia until he was six, when she died suddenly of a stroke. His mother reappeared and took him to America. He worked to lose his accent and fit in with the other kids, but it still slips out sometimes (especially if he spends any time back in Australia). Prefers to go by John instead of St. John, since Americans don’t know how to pronounce it. He didn’t have the most stable life with his mother, and he eventually ran away before encountering Xavier.
X-Men Evolution Pyro: Raised by his teen birth parents without his grandmother’s stabilizing influence. Probably a pretty neglected and chaotic childhood. Started setting things on fire at an early age.
X-Men TAS Pyro: Gran got fed up with Australia and took herself and baby St. John back to England. Has dual British-Australian citizenship, but really considers himself English.
Wolverine and the X-Men Pyro: This Pyro seems relatively well-adjusted and doesn’t seem to have a criminal background before joining Magneto’s Acolytes? (The X-Men don’t treat him like an enemy when he shows up in the first episode. Maybe they are just focused on rescuing him and the other captured mutants, but they really don’t seem to recognize him at all.) I’m going to say that his mother and grandmother raised him together in Australia. It wasn’t the best childhood, there was a lot of conflict between mom and grandma, and St. John was often caught in the middle, but they functioned okay as a family, and he at least had two parental figures that cared about him.
Marauders Pyro as written by Duggan - raised by dingos in the outback.

pietro can’t get over it [ID: Pietro Maximoff filming himself and his teachers who are all in the middle of something else, as the audio plays. “Mom” is replaced with “Dad” in the captions. The first teacher is replaced with Storm, the second teacher is Wolverine, and the last teacher is Professor X. /END ID]

SCP/Control AU where Danny escapes his containment and goes wild in The Oldest House.
Hc that Duke and Danny are so oblivious to each other’s feelings that even Bruce had to intervene and help the rest of his kids matchmake them (click for clarity)
